PROBATE for DC, MD & VA residents

DC Probate attorneys, Fairfax Probate attorneys, Prince George's Probate attorneys, and probate attorneys for other areas of MD and VA.

We prepare all the necessary court papers and coach you through the entire probate process. You gather the necessary information, file the papers with the court, and mail letters to the heirs. We guarantee the court papers will be accepted by the court; in the unlikely event that they aren’t, we will fix them until they are – at no additional charge. With our coaching, you will be able to complete the probate process for less than $1000 (not including court and newspaper fees), as opposed to the $5000, $10,000 or more typically charged by probate lawyers. Our fees can be reimbursed to you from the estate.

The following is a description of the three major stages in a probate proceeding, the help we provide to you, and our fees for each stage. As part of this help, you receive an unlimited number of telephone consultations with our lawyers at no additional cost and there is no time limit on these calls.

First Stage: Appointment as a Personal Representative - $299

  • File the will, if any, with the court
  • Obtain a court order appointing you the personal representative for the estate
  • Notify heirs and creditors that you are the personal representative (including publishing a notice in two newspapers)
  • Pay or obtain a waiver of the bond (if required).

Second Stage: Inventory and Distribution of the Property - $499

  • Wind up decedent’s affairs
  • Take possession of, protect and manage the assets
  • Determine the value of the assets
  • Create an inventory of assets and send it to heirs
  • Pay debts and funeral expenses
  • File estate tax returns
  • Distribute the property to heirs

Final Stage: Completion of Administration of Estate - $199

  • Prepare a statement of account and send it to the heirs
  • File a certificate of completion with the court
