Contested Divorce

The price includes the cost of mediation and the cost of preparing a separation agreement. This agreement puts in writing your decisions about alimony, child support, child custody, and the division of marital property. Experienced Fairfax divorce attorneys provide the following services. You receive:

  • Two mediation sessions with an experienced Fairfax divorce mediator. The sessions are two hours long and more sessions can be purchased separately.
  • One spouse receives consultations from a Fairfax divorce attorney during the mediation process. This insures that his or her rights are protected.
  • Attorney guidance with the separation agreement from the mediation for one spouse to insure fairness.
  • Referral of spouse to an experienced, independant Fairfax divorce attorney for consultations during mediation process. This also includes a review of the mediated agreement (estimated attorney fee $200 - $300 purchased separately) for fairness.
  • Separation agreement. This documents your agreement from mediation about alimony, child custody, child support and the division of marital property; and becomes part of the final divorce decree. This document is enforceable.
  • All the papers from court you need to obtain a divorce. These papers also includes your spouse's needs.
  • Assistance to prepare you for the divorce hearing.

* When spouses have a settlement agreement, the court hearing is usually routine and does not require the presence of a Fairfax divorce attorney; only one spouse needs to be present at the hearing.
